Underexposed Skateboarding Documentary

UNDEREXPOSED trailer from Amelia Brodka on Vimeo.

Underexposed is the brand new documentary from Polish-born female skater, Amelia Brodka. The documentary was part of a project she carried out in her senior school year. After realising there was a lack of exposure for women skaters, Amelia wanted to create a film which would encourage and motivate women skaters from around the world.

When Thrasher Magazine asked Amelia what got her into skating she replied, “I saw the X-Games when I was a little kid in Philadelphia and I saw the girl’s vert demo. Lyn-Z Adams and Carabeth were skating and I said, “Wow! I want to do that!” And I’ve never stopped, basically. I got completely obsessed and attached to it.”

The aim of the documentary is to encourage more women to take part in skating competitions which should simultaneously encourage more businesses to invest in sponsoring women skaters. There are few companies which already embrace women in Skateboarding such as the streetwear company, NIKITA, who produce stylish street/skatewear.

Amelia also comments, “The thing that I’d most like to do is have companies that sell women’s shoes and apparel and call themselves skate companies – it’d be rad if they actually used girls riding skateboards to promote their products. ‘Cause a lot of times you see an ad of a girl holding a skateboard, but she’s not even a real skater and the ad is for a supposed skate company. Some of these companies even flow girl skaters product. So why not use an actual girl who skates instead of a model holding a skateboard?”

Underexposed will be having an invite-only, work-in-progress screening tonight, Aug 1st, 2012, in Long Beach, CA.
