MOB WEEKLY: BIA

This week I wanted to cover a new topic : Femcees. What exactly is a femcee?  Good question. According to Urban Dictionary, a femcee is a woman who raps or freestyles; the feminine equivalent of an “emcee”. Personally I think the definition of a femcee has been a bit misconstrued. A femcee is a woman, who (of course) can rap, write, and records all of her own songs, but also carried an aura that many people can relate to. A femcee has a sexy attitude and edge that attracts to everyone, and lastly a femcee is a Most Official Bitch.

Meet Bia.  Coming straight from Boston, this hot femcee/MOB has taken her rap career by storm. Her LP “S.A.W” awaiting to drop any day now, Bia is going to be the hottest thing to put the Bean back on the rap game. (No thanks to Benzino). She recently dropped a new video for her song “High” which reached over 2000+ views her first day on YouTube.

I had the pleasure of interviewing this fly shorty/ personal friend, so check it out!

Where are you based out of?

At the moment I am based out of Boston, and New York.

When did you start?

I would say I’ve been around music and recording for the past five years. I’ve always written music and poetry, but I’ve only started to make my songs this past year.

What inspired you to become a femcee?

I’ve always had an ear for music. However I think the newer age of upcoming female rappers made me realize, that hard work speaks for itself and with that anything is possible. You can work for someone else’s dream, or you can start from the bottom and create your own.

What is your inspiration to your lyrics?

My inspiration comes from so many different things. From my circumstances growing up, trials and tribulations, to the things I see everyday. My mind never stops running so I take a piece of everything and apply it all to my music.

What makes you different from the other femcee’s?

One thing that makes me different from other femcees is I don’t try to be something I’m not or something that people expect. I like hardcore rap and hip-hop, however on the contrary I am a girly girl. I love fashion and dressing up and being pretty but I accept my tomboy traits and have learned to tie all of that into my music.

What artists are on this mixtape?

I have a few independent artists on my mix-tape from all over the states. Kream, and Bigg Dee from Boston Massachusetts, as well as the Arkitek from Dallas Texas.

What female rapper do you look up to?

My favorite female rapper of all time is Foxy Brown. I’m a fan of a lot of female artists though I love Nicki Minaj of course she inspired me and showed me it is possible to be a girly rapper.

Favorite designers?

Some of my favorite designers are Jeremy Scott, Jeffery Campbell, Leah Mcsweeny, OBEY, BDG, and YSL. I like thrift hunting as well I’ve found some of my favorite pieces in thirft stores and vintage boutiques.

Do you plan on visiting the UK?

DEFINITELY! The UK has so much to offer as far as music, art, and fashion. I love their creativity and bright open-minded spirits. Not to mention all of the people I’ve met from the UK were all very cool and great company.

When can we expect your mixtape to drop?

My Mixtape will be out Late July on http://DatPiff.com
